Candidates for the office of the President of the AIA are often asked how they plan to dedicate a year of their lives to serving the Institute at this level. I’ve asked myself this question.
I spend one third of my life in practice with Architecture Is Fun. I spend another third teaching, and mentoring the next generation of architects. And the final third is committed to service and leadership. The key to balancing this sandwich of activity is to share and participate in each with family, friends and colleagues. I’m lucky to have their support. It’s in my equilibrium to affirm and promote our profession. It would be my privilege to do this as President of the AIA.
